Master of Arts

Māori Development

Māori Development is an area that has become increasingly relevant in the New Zealand business climate. The ability to analyse issues from a Màori perspective while having a strong foundation in business and finance is highly valued, if not sought after.

AUT’s Te Ara Poutama faculty specialises in this field and prides itself on offering students a unique opportunity to combine learning about te ao Māori with the exploration of best practice business models. A Master of Arts – Māori Development will allow graduates to undertake supervised research in an area which is still largely under-researched and rapidly growing.

The Master of Arts is a programme of advanced study and research, which is normally undertaken over two years of full time study or part time over a maximum of five years. This qualification is structured to include both research methodology and coursework papers, followed by either a full year thesis or the option to pursue a site-based research project and dissertation. The programme has been designed with a clear focus on creating graduates who are both academically and practically grounded and who are capable of making a difference in their communities.

A major in te reo Māori is planned for 2009, subject to final approval.
