Titireia Māori Nil Tuition Fee Te Teo Māori

As part of its commitment to building an inclusive Aotearoa New Zealand and in recognition of the value of te reo me nga tikanga Māori, AUT University’s te reo Māori papers are nil fee and taught in a marae setting. Every person, and their family/whānau, who enrols will do so without incurring fees for the first time they enrol in the papers. The opportunity is also available to students enrolled in a range of AUT’s degree programmes where te reo is offered as an elective.

Te Reo Māori at AUT is presented on an innovative digital platform. Students download podcasts to their iPods so they can listen and learn in their own time. They can watch animated episodes in state of the art computer labs and can upload their homework online. The resource includes a comprehensive online dictionary with new entries and images being added all the time. By making the material so easily accessible, people are not only improving their te reo skills but becoming digitally literate at the same time.

Introductory papers
There are two introductory (Te Tauihu: Te Reo I and Te Taurapa: Te Reo II) and two intermediate (Te Whakapakari I and II) Te Reo Māori papers on offer.

Advanced Te Reo Māori
AUT is committed to producing quality speakers of te reo Māori. Titireia Māori is consistent with the act of enhancing (creating a thing of immense value) Māori knowledge, language and thinking. In the first instance, it is a strategy that addresses AUT University’s commitment to responding creatively and boldly to the learning needs of Māori. In a larger context however, Titireia Māori is a strategy that addresses fundamental questions relating to our identity as modern New Zealanders who seek to be informed of both our past and present so that ultimately we will be confident about our future.

There are also four advanced papers Te Reo Matua I and II: Advanced Intermediate I and II, and Te Kāhure I and II: Advanced Māori I and II. These four papers incur a fee.
