Bachelor of Arts
Japanese Studies
The Bachelor of Arts (Japanese Studies) is designed for those students who would like to focus more on understanding Japanese society and culture alongside some Japanese language study. It is an ideal major to take as a double major with business, hospitality and tourism, social sciences, translation or interpreting.
WHAT THIS PROGRAMME COVERS
This programme enables students to explore Japanese culture, values and society as well as providing the essentials of Japanese language to communicate effectively in everyday situations. Students have the opportunity to complete a research paper on an area of particular interest, which could link in with a theme from their other major.
Core Papers
Throughout the three years of the BA, students take core papers that provide the necessary skills in writing, research and IT capability to prepare them for academic work and their working life. For a list of core papers see the Bachelor of Arts overview
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Because this major can be taken to complement another major, graduates can choose from a wide range of careers. The language and intercultural competence gained from the Japanese Studies major will make graduates attractive to employers in the increasingly multicultural New Zealand workplace.
