Bachelor of Tourism Studies
The tourism industry is the world’s largest employer and is now a dominant economic force in New Zealand. There is a growing need for people to manage and work in the industry, to assist in planning its development, mitigate impacts and understand processes of industry yield creation.
The programme aims to provide students with the opportunity to study tourism giving graduates the edge for professional careers in the tourism industry or the ability to pursue further studies at the graduate level. The focus is to produce graduates who have a sound technical and theoretical understanding and have the ability to plan, develop and apply appropriate technologies and tools for tourism management in a range of contexts.

SPECIAL ADMISSION
Applicants over 20 years of age who do not hold a university entrance qualification (such as NCEA or CIE above) may qualify for university entrance via Special Admission.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

THE KEY SKILLS YOU WILL ACQUIRE
The programme of study comprises three years of coursework (full time), including a co-operative education programme. The first year involves two core papers which focus on the New Zealand and global dimensions of the tourism industry. The second and third years provide a broad mix of papers aimed at providing an in-depth understanding of key issues and trends in the tourism industry.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates are qualified for an extensive range of career opportunities within the tourism industry. Capabilities in small/ medium tourism business entrepreneurship, management of tourism resources, and marketing of tourism. Graduates have the skill and acumen to develop a range of products used by New Zealand tourism wholesalers for specific inbound markets, and an aptitude and competency for airline, local and regional authority employment.
