Programme Leader
Associate Professor Dr Vasantha Abeysekera

The main goal of the Master of Construction Management programme is to develop expertise in the management of construction projects in a business environment.  Studies can be completed in one year of full time study or stretched over a period of four years of part-time study striking a balance between work, life, and study.

With a rapidly changing construction environment the need for graduates who are equipped with knowledge and skills required for managing construction projects from planning and design through to occupation and benefit realisation, has never been greater. Projects operate in a business environment within the construction industry and the need to understand business imperatives is fundamental to success.

The programme incorporates papers from the School of Engineering and the Faculty of Business, and is primarily aimed at practising construction managers who are in responsible positions and who are aspiring to more senior managerial positions.

Support for the programme has come from Fletcher Construction, Beca, Multiplex Constructions, RCP, Mainzeal, Jasmax, Coffee Projects, Rider Levett Bucknall, and Hawkins Construction.

The delivery of the programme is designed to be flexible and fit in with a working professional’s life. Block papers are intensive and delivered over a few days. An individual paper has three blocks per six months. Other papers are delivered on a weekly basis over two month period. The MCM programme requires the equivalent of one-year of full-time study. For those working it may be studied on a part-time basis, depending on suitability this can be between two and four years.

Contractors and consultants, engineers and quantity surveyors, architects and designers involved in managing projects and their organisations are some of the groups which will find this qualification a considerable enhancement for their professional development.
