FIRST-YEAR SCHOLARSHIPS ARE UP FOR THE YEARNING!
In addition to the supporting material providing evidence of creative interest/abilities, you are asked to provide a creative response to the following:
It is 2028. You’re walking down the street. What technology are you using, wearing or seeing?
This scenario is intended to provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate your creative vision of the role technology will play in the future. Respond in imaginative and creative ways maybe you will draw a new portable media device, write a beta version of some software, write about the role of technology in the future or submit a video simulation of your idea.
Applications for the scholarship will be evaluated on the basis of:
- Demonstrated engagement with creative technologies (as shown by your application).
- The creative vision of the future shown in response to the scenario.
- The understanding of technical issues demonstrated in both your application and in response to the scenario.
Successful recipients will demonstrate a high level of trans disciplinary knowledge, theoretical awareness of new and emerging technologies and demonstrated ability to work in collaborative teams.
Applicants for the scholarship will be asked to speak to their response during their interview for admission to programme.

EVIDENCE OF CREATIVE INTEREST/ ABILITIES.
To support candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds and experience, the BCT encourages applications from students with demonstrated interest and ability across the sciences and arts.
This might take the form of:
PORTFOLIO
While a portfolio might also take a more traditional form, similar to painting or graphic design boards, it might draw on independent projects in other media. For example we would be interested in seeing any work you have done in video, flash, web, or murals, illustrations, photographs, performance, sound … simply demonstrate your creative potential!
Or WRITING
If you haven’t done any creative work but have an interest in media issues then maybe it’s easier for you to write about your interest in Creative Technologies. This is your chance to tell us not just about your motivation for applying to the BCT but for sharing with us your vision of what creative technologies means to you and how it might shape the future.
Or TECHNICAL
Perhaps you have a more technical background in engineering, programming or maths? We want to know about that too! Let us know about what you have achieved; send us some code, pictures of the engine you stripped down and rebuilt, or show us a problem you are working on. Impress us with your technical mastery!
Or WILDCARD
Then again maybe you’re a misfit? One of those people that have off the wall ideas and the energy to carry them out! Then this is your opportunity to get it together and make something of those projects. Perhaps it was something you invented; a hot rod coffee maker, solar ipod charger or simply a practical solution to an everyday problem? Play your wild card and put in an application!
Once you have submitted your application and Evidence of Creative interest/abilities we will assess your application and advise you of the outcome as soon as possible after the closing date.
If your application is considered favourably we will invite you for an interview with a panel of tutors.
Interviews.
Interviews will be scheduled during the week of 6 Oct. Interviews are approximately 20 minutes long. Students will be notified regarding interviews during the week of 22 Sept.
In addition to NCEA results, students are encouraged to attend an interview whenever possible. The interview is a chance for students to present material that demonstrates evidence of ability in technologies and creative disciplines and their interest in collaborative teamwork. This might be the result of schoolwork but may also reflect extra curricula and self initiated work by way of visual portfolio or documentation /demonstration of technical application.
The interviews, that are approximately twenty minutes in duration, are informal meetings through which applicants can discuss with staff their interest in and understanding of creative technologies and their suitability for the BCT program.
